American Craft Beer Week 2010!

Well folks, it’s back again:  American Craft Beer Week!  Yep, last year we had a blast with daily tours and tastings, a Saturday of cookin’ out and watching the stunt riding of Gary Harding.  Most importantly we raised awareness of local craft beer and raised money for breast cancer research nationally.

This year we plan a similar week of fun.  Our charity this year will be very local and close to our hearts.  Helping Hands, based in Martinsburg, WV aids cancer patients in coping with the financial hardships and other unexpected expenses relating to their treatments and living costs.  We hope to raise a lot of money for this great organization during the week to come.  Though we are still in the final planning stages, here’s what to look forward to in a nutshell:

- Daily tours and tastings beginning at 2pm right here at the brewery.

- Buy a Mountaineer pint glass for $5 and the proceeds go to Helping Hands.

- A Saturday cook-out and beer tasting as well as some local music entertainment at the brewery.  The food for the event was donated by our good friends at DOT FOODS and Martins Grocers.  All proceeds will go to Helping Hands and this is really our biggest fund raising day of A.C.B.W. so please come down and enjoy!

American Craft Beer Week is a national event held at nearly all craft breweries around the country to promote American craft beer and local breweries.  The event this year takes place May 17th through May 23rd.  For more information please visit the official website at:  http://www.americancraftbeerweek.org/

We hope to see you here, cheers!

The NEW beers from Mountaineers!

For those of you who follow us on Facebook and Twitter, you are very much aware of what’s been happening here at the brewery, the new beers, new events and American Craft Beer Week.  For those who do not yet follow us on those great websites, I highly suggest you do.  Both the Facebook page and Twitter are 100% Brewmaster-run!  Yep, yours truly.  I write about everything fit to print as well as a few just simple thoughts.  On Facebook, just “become a fan” of “Mountaineer Brewing Company.  On Twitter just “follow” us at “Mountainbrew” for all your quick updates.

Now, onto the new beers: During the second half of 2009 and into the first quarter of 2010, we have expanded our line up of ales and lagers.  First we released our Oktoberfest Bier commercially on draft in the fall of ‘09 and it was a huge success.  So much that we just might bottle it this year!  Next we decided to push our brewery limits a tad with our Old Snowshoe Winter Ale, brewed with molasses and all imported British noble hops.  We plan to further expand our seasonal selections over the next year to cover each time of year.

Finally, due to lower than hoped sales of our Red Ale, and I have heard an earful from those devoted drinkers of it, we had to discontinue production of that style.  But, the good news is that we have opened the door for two new year round ales to replace the Red.  The first, Vandalia Ale, is now available on draft and very soon in bottles.  Vandalia Ale is our “West Virginia Style Ale” brewed as an ongoing tribute to the rich history of the region.  Vandalia Ale is a great copper-colored session beer for everyone.  We employed 100% Chinook hops and a complex blend of malted barley and wheat to create a very well-balanced ale.  The next year round beer you should see in early summer is Mountaineer Rye Ale.  This MBC twist on a traditional German Roggen Bier will be a refreshing yet very unique beer for those looking to explore the nuances of malted rye and German Noble hops.  This golden ale will be made up of 30% rye and will be offered in bottles and draft.

So, that’s the most recent news and I hope you have the opportunity to try all the new things we’re doing to have as much fun as brewers can have and give you all something to get even more excited about.  Be on the lookout sometime this year for our new 12-pack samplers, each box will contain a sampling of all our beers with the occasional seasonal beer surprise!

Thank you for your continued patronage and support, we will continue to make the best beer possible.

Cheers!
